Knee Surgeon for Patients in Umm Salal
Quick answer
Families in Umm Salal Ali and Umm Salal Mohammed come south to Aman Hospital Doha to see knee surgeon Dr. Pablo Gelber about knees that catch, lock, swell or ache with age. Most drive in along Al Shamal Road or around the city on Al Majd Road to reach the Old Airport area.
Getting to Aman Hospital from Umm Salal
Umm Salal is just north of Doha, and Al Shamal Road, on its eastern side, is the main road in and out of the municipality. Heading south on Al Shamal Road brings you into the city, from where the ring roads lead round to the Old Airport area and Airport Street, where Aman Hospital is located. Al Majd Road, which meets Al Shamal Road at the Al Mazrooah interchange, is the alternative for drivers who prefer to bypass the centre and approach from the south.
Umm Salal does not yet have a metro station, and local public transport is limited, so most patients come by car. If you are combining the trip with the Red Line, the nearest stations are on the Lusail side, from which the line runs south to Al Matar Al Qadeem and Oqba Ibn Nafie.
Home life in Umm Salal and the knee
Umm Salal is largely residential, with many large family homes and extended families living close together. Majlis gatherings, floor seating and prayer all ask the knee to bend fully and then carry the body back up, and that moment of rising from the floor is often when people first notice that something is wrong. A knee that catches or locks as you stand, or gives a sharp pain on the inner side, can point to a meniscus tear; a slow build-up of stiffness and pain on stairs over years more often points to arthritis.
The area also has a strong local football culture through Umm Salal Sports Club, and young players from neighbourhood teams bring the usual twisting and landing injuries. Shopping and walking at Doha Festival City, the large mall in Umm Salal Mohammed, is a regular outing for many families, and for older relatives those long indoor walks are a useful everyday measure of how well the knee is coping.
Tell the surgeon which daily movements are hardest. Being able to pray, sit with family and walk comfortably are reasonable goals, and treatment is planned around them.

Frequently asked questions
My knee locks when I stand up from the floor. Is it a meniscus tear?
Locking or catching, especially with pain on one side of the knee, is a common sign of a meniscus tear, but loose fragments of cartilage and kneecap problems can do the same. An examination and often an MRI tell them apart.
Is there a metro from Umm Salal to Aman Hospital?
Not directly at present. Most patients from Umm Salal drive or take a taxi. Those who use the metro join the Red Line on the Lusail side and travel south to the Old Airport stations, then take a short taxi.
Can I keep praying normally with a painful knee?
Many patients adapt temporarily, for example by praying seated on a chair while the knee recovers. The surgeon can explain what the knee can safely do, and the religious ruling is something to discuss with a scholar.
