Knee Surgeon for Patients in Al Rayyan

Quick answer

Footballers, runners and families from Al Rayyan see Dr. Pablo Gelber at Aman Hospital Doha for ACL tears, meniscus injuries, growth-related knee pain in young athletes and arthritis. From Al Rayyan, patients drive east into the city towards the Old Airport area, or take the Gold or Green Line to Msheireb and change to the Red Line.

Getting to Aman Hospital from Al Rayyan

Al Rayyan lies to the west of central Doha, and Aman Hospital is on the opposite, south-eastern side of the city, on Airport Street in the Old Airport area. By car, most people head east along Al Rayyan Road, Al Waab Street or Salwa Road and then pick up one of the ring roads, such as D, E or F Ring, round to the Old Airport side.

By metro, the Gold Line runs from Al Aziziya and Sports City, beside Aspire Zone, through Al Waab and Al Sadd to Msheireb. The Green Line serves Education City, Al Shaqab and Al Rayyan Al Qadeem and also meets the other lines at Msheireb. At Msheireb, change to the Red Line heading south and get off at Al Matar Al Qadeem or Oqba Ibn Nafie, then take a short taxi or feeder bus to the hospital.

Sport in Al Rayyan and the knee

Few parts of Qatar are as closely tied to sport. Aspire Zone, with Khalifa International Stadium and Aspire Park, is where many people run, walk and train, and Education City Stadium and Ahmad bin Ali Stadium sit within the wider municipality. Club and academy football is a big part of family life here.

That shapes what we see. Cutting, landing and tackling in football cause many ACL ruptures and meniscus tears, often with a pop and swelling within hours. Teenagers training several times a week can develop pain just below the kneecap at the bony bump of the shin, which in a growing child is usually Osgood-Schlatter disease rather than a serious injury. Basketball and volleyball players are prone to patellar tendinopathy, a sore spot at the bottom of the kneecap that is worse with jumping. Runners on the Aspire Park paths may notice front-of-knee pain as they add distance.

None of these is decided by a sport alone. Examination, and sometimes an MRI, tells us whether the knee needs rehabilitation, a planned operation such as ACL reconstruction, or simply a change in training load.

Frequently asked questions

I injured my knee at football in Al Rayyan. Should I stop playing until I am seen?

Yes. If the knee swelled quickly, gave way or felt like it popped, stop pivoting sports until it has been examined. Playing on an unstable knee can damage the meniscus and cartilage. Walking and gentle movement are usually fine in the meantime.

My teenager has pain below the kneecap after academy training. Is it serious?

In many active teenagers this is Osgood-Schlatter disease, an irritation of the growth area below the kneecap that usually settles with load management as they grow. It is worth an examination if the pain is severe, one-sided after a fall, or the knee swells or locks.

Is it easier to come by metro or by car from Al Rayyan?

It depends on where you live and how mobile you are. The Gold or Green Line to Msheireb and then the Red Line avoids parking, but involves a change and a short final transfer. If your knee is very sore, a lift or taxi is usually more comfortable.
