Guide
Booking a knee consultation at Aman Hospital
Quick answer
You can book a knee consultation by phone or WhatsApp on +974 4400 4400, by email to qatar@drgelber.com, or through the form on this website. Have your Qatar ID, insurance card and any scans ready, says Dr. Pablo Gelber, who sees knee patients at Aman Hospital in Doha, Qatar.
Four ways to get in touch
Choose whichever is easiest for you. Every route leads to the same team at Aman Hospital, and you will be offered an appointment with Dr. Pablo Gelber in Doha.
- Phone: +974 4400 4400. Useful if you want to talk through timing or your insurance straight away.
- WhatsApp: the same number, +974 4400 4400. Many patients in Qatar find it convenient to message, and you can send a photo of your insurance card or a scan report.
- Email: qatar@drgelber.com. Good for longer messages, previous operation notes and scan reports.
- The contact form on this website. Leave your name, phone number and a short note about your knee, and the team will contact you.
Whichever you use, say briefly what happened to your knee and how long it has been a problem. It helps the team offer an appointment that suits the urgency.
What to have ready when you book
A few details make the booking quicker and avoid surprises on the day.
- Your full name as it appears on your Qatar ID or passport, and a mobile number.
- Your insurance card and policy details, if you are using insurance.
- A one-line description of the problem, such as "twisted my knee at football two weeks ago, still swollen".
- Whether you already have an MRI, X-ray or report, and where it was done.
- Any previous knee surgery, and roughly when.
- The days and times that work for you, especially around work shifts or school runs.
Insurance and referrals
Whether you need a referral, and what your policy covers for a specialist visit, depends on your insurer and your plan. Some plans let you book a specialist directly and others ask for a referral first. Before your appointment, check with your insurer and with Aman Hospital so you know what is covered and whether any approval is needed in advance. If your cover comes through your employer, your HR department may also be able to explain what your plan requires.
If you are paying for yourself, say so when you book, and ask the team what the consultation includes.
Languages
Consultations are available in English and Arabic. If a family member usually helps you with medical conversations, you are welcome to bring them. If you are booking for a parent or child, mention it, and say who will attend with them.
Finding Aman Hospital
Aman Hospital is in the Old Airport area of Doha: Building 412, Street 310 (Airport Street), Zone 47. If you use a map app, search for Aman Hospital Doha. Allow extra time at busy hours, and arrive a little early on your first visit so registration does not eat into your consultation.
When not to wait for an appointment
Some knee problems should not wait for a routine booking. Go to an emergency department or call 999 if your knee is hot, red and swollen with a fever, if the knee or leg looks deformed after an injury, if you cannot put any weight on it, or if the calf becomes painful and swollen, especially with chest pain or breathlessness. A knee that is suddenly locked and will not straighten also needs prompt assessment.
Frequently asked questions
Can I send my MRI before the appointment?
Yes. You can email the report or share it on WhatsApp so the team knows what you have. Bring the full images on disc or as a download link to the consultation, because the surgeon usually needs to see the images themselves, not only the report.
How soon can I be seen?
It depends on the diary and on how urgent the problem is. Explain what happened when you book, especially if your knee is locked, very swollen or gave way badly, so the team can prioritise you.
Can I book for someone else?
Yes. Parents often book for children and adult children for parents. Give the patient's own name and ID details, and the contact number of whoever will attend.
What if I need to change or cancel my appointment?
Contact the team as early as you can by phone, WhatsApp or email, so the slot can be offered to someone else and a new time arranged for you.
Do I need an MRI before I book?
No. Many patients come without one. Dr. Gelber examines the knee first and usually requests imaging only when it is likely to change the plan.
